Creating Digipak

Our Digipak is very nearly done, We have used a lot of effects and layers to create what we wanted. The inside of the pack is of lined up alcoholic beverages. We have used filters, saturations, light adjustments, toners and lots of other effects to change it from the original image and it looks great!
The front cover and inside panel are both of Dan (Main Character). We've adjusted the exposure and brightness of the images to make them look more effective. We've added various texts to make the album look professional and overall We're really pleased with the outcome.

Bottles Image - Digipak

We took a panoramic shot of lots of bottlesof alochol for our inside cover of the Digipak. The shot will take up 3 panes and so it has to be interesting and bold. This is the original image that we took...

I added effects to the image to make it more bold and exciting. Firstly, I added the image to the digipak and placed it in the right position. Then I selected the image and used the "find edges" filter on Photoshop. The image looked a lot better but it all had the same colour, which isn't what we wanted. I brought up the colour balance tool and brought out different colours in the image, so it looked slightly more colourful and interesting. This is what we ended up with...

Creating The Digipak

We took some photos of Dan to use in our digipak. The colour in the photo was quite bright and you could see the detail of the pavement and leaves etc. We didnt want this because we wanted Dan to be the sole focus of the shot and so we turned down the colours to reduce visibility of extraneous objects (e.g. leaves) and turned up the white to make Dan's face stand out slightly more. We then added text which we downloaded from dafont.com to match with our genre and theme. We put the text in white because the shot is quite dark and th white will be a great contrast. The final design for the front cover is linked with the music video and also represents the genre well so we are representing our song well.

Digipack Images

These are images I took last night which are potential images for the cover of our digipack. We have planned to use one of these images for the cover. But we are considering using two of the images overlayed as this could make the cover look more interesting and would show a higher understanding of photoshop. We still need to take another image for the inside of the digipack.

Final Music Video

This is our finished music video...

Evaluation of Final Cut

We have had a lot of problems whilst editing our music video. We did not have sufficient footage, the lighting for a large quantity of our footage wasn't adequate, There were parts where there was continuity problems. But we have managed to adjust and avoid all of these problems. We had to re film some of the scenes. We had to use various effects and filters to correct all the problems and we're very very happy with the final result. The footage is very clear, there are clear inks between each clip. The outdoor footage we had was to dark and when we tried to correct it, it showed up very grainy and unclear. So to get around this, we adjusted the exposure and put it in black and white. This benefited us in two ways. It made the footage very clear and not grainy, but as well as this, it gave the impression that the characters were drunk which is what we wanted to achieve. We have had to work overtime to correct the footage and put together a decent music video and overall we're really pleased with outcome.

Analysis of Digipak - "The Music"

hghfWe analysed the digipak from the band "The Music". The genre that this band plays in is indie rock. Here are the photos from the digipak....

The outside covers are just coloured patterns in the shape of a CD. This tells us no information about the identity of the band or genre etc. The inside cover follows the same pattern; it is merely just colours. However, there is a little booklet inside the packaging which contains details of the track list, the credits and also the CD itself. In the booklet, there are photos of the band. There are some of them performing and some of just the band in normal scenarios, which is stereotypical of the genre they are in. They do not focus on selling their image like other artists such as Rihanna, who's image was on every single panel of her digipak.

The digipak we analysed is from the same genre as what we are currently creating, and so we will try and take inspiration from this.

Ancillary Project

We plan to have the front cover of our digipack as Dan as the focus, possibly at the front of the house and the other characters in the background.

We have taken inspiration from these images and we plan to blend them all together to create our digipak...

We plan to take the shot outside of Dan's house, where the video is taken place. The lights will be on inside the house, as to replicate there is something going i.e. a house party.

The band Orson had 5 members and so we plan to show this because despite the fact that the main focus is the singer Dan, they are still a band and so the other members need to be recognised.

In the video, we are dressed up as nerds and so we will carry this out on to the ancillary texts to crete a link to the music video.

Render Problems on Final Cut

We used a program called "Debut" to capture some footage off our computer screen. The footage was somebody typing a Facebook status about how excited they were about their evening. This part is vital to the narrative as it explains the irony behind the character and their costumes. However, at the moment the text is not visible enough and so we need to zoom in on the status. Because this is not actually video footage, Final cut takes extremely long to render the clip (about 1 hour), and so we do not have time to complete the render process.

Changing our music video

A large amount of the clips in our video are to long, so we've decided to cut up our footage and make the video feel more jumpy which will make it more intersting to the audience. In a lot of the clips, the footage might become boring because the scene doesnt change for a while so we have used various parts of the vieo to change this.

Second filming plan

There were areas in our music video which were not good enough so therefore we are going to have to re film certain parts. The majority of the film is good but areas such as the outdoor scenes need to be changed.

- We need to add more shots and use different angles to cut up the long footage we have. Eg the first verse of singing is about 30 seconds of filming which only consists of 2 shots (Which is untypical of a music video).

- We do not have enough footage for the end of the film so we are going to have to add more shots to stretch out the footage.

- We need to re film the outside scenes as it is not bright enough and using colour correctors did not work and made the footage appear grainy. We plan to get more lights and reflectors etc to make the shot appear much brighter.

- Re film transformation scene as it does not match up with the song.

- Re Film Shots scene as the camera is wobbling and does not include all the characters

As well as re filming, we need to take pictures for our digipack.

Rough Cut Feedback

This is the feedback that we receieved from our teacher...

"There needs to be more of a narrative progression. Keep Dan as the focus but you need to develop your other characters otherwise the video doesn't work. You should be cutting into yout footage more; clips are too long. The exposure on the outdoor clips hasnt quite worked and its not obvious to the viewer what the relevance of going outside is if this is a house party? Good angles and camera movement; also good performance."
