Richard Dyer's Star Theory

Richard Dyer's star theory states that "a star is someone who's interest in their personal life outweighs the interest in their profession'. A star image is constructed out of a rage of materials e.g. films, videos, posters and magazines. The stars represent shared cultural values e.g. being slim, a certain fashion trend or religion. We create our own aspirations of what we wish to look like from these stars. Some stars support hegemony by conforming to the ideal. Celebrity magazines such as "Heat" and "Closer", compare us or encourage us to conform to the ideal. Star persona is fragile and can be broken at any time.  We created two mood boards to illustrate the star images of two celebrities; Beyonce and Justin Bieber.
